Governor: Ministry of Defence didn’t keep their word
BRNO – The renewed territorial proceedings which is supposed to decide whether the NATO radar construction nearby the Peace Monument on the Stara Hill by Pratzen, Austerlitz region will be permitted begin these days in the local Austerlitz authority. Just the first reactions indicate that the process will be under the eyeglass of all the participants.
Members of the public service society Peace Monument – Austerlitz (Mohyla Miru – Austerlitz, o. p. s.), supported by the conclusion of council of associated communities, already expressed their clear “No!” to the radar construction before. “If the Ministry of Defence won’t give up on its intence the whole thing is going to end up in the lawsuite. We are confident in our success. We are not willing to tolerate the attitude which follow the preparations of the construction and which should be forgotten already for 15 years. The support we are receiving from abroad proves that the Austerlitz battlefield is an exceptional historical monument. It’s damaging would also cause a damage to the Czechia’s foreign reputation,” said to Pravo the Project Austerlitz 2005 presidebn Mr. Miroslav Jandora.
Activists offer options in the vicinity
While the army claims that other place cannot be found in Czechia, experts cooperating with the Peace Monument – Austerlitz society discovered far better localities nearby, e.g. Vyhon Hill by Zidlochovice (alt. 354,5 m), Lisci Hill by Nikolcice (alt. 374,6 m), Predni kout Hill between Divaky and Kurdejov (alt. 410,2 m). According to Miroslav Jandora the problem is elsewhere because the army has already invested millions at Stara Hill by the Peace Monument silently without asking anybody.
“The army disguised their intention to build the NATO radar on the hereditary protected battlefield for a long time – first information appeared only in the first half of the last year. But already in that time the preliminary construction works were under way. If they would check the opinion of inhabitants and communities in advance, they could now perceive them in a discussion or change their intention. Instead of that they had chosen the attitude proven during the totalitary regime and didn’t inform not even the necessary minimum,” noted Miroslav Jandora on behalf of the communities associated in the Peace Monument – Austerlitz, o. p. s.

Ministry didn’t keep their word
Southern Moravian Governor Stanislav Juranek has confirmed on Wednesday that the Ministery didn’t keep their two-yeas-old promise by not considering the new radar construction out of the historical area of the Napoleonic battlefield. The promise was given during the meeting of the Ministry officials with mayors of the respective communities which disagree with the intended construction in the vicinity of the Peace Monument. The governor was present at the meeting.
“They clearly promised although in oral form only that they will consider the suitability of all optional localities for the radar placement.
