The city of Mikulov left its trace in both campaigns of the Emperor Napoleon against Austria – in 1805 as well as in 1809, parts of armies of both sides marched through its streets. Four days after the battle of Austerlitz on December 6th 1805 the preliminary peace talks started there. The peace was later signed in Pressburg. In 1809, secondary fights of the battle of nearby Znaim took place there. On September 15th 1809, Napoleon himself spent night in the local Dietrichstein chateau on his way to Brno.

According to its principles the Project Austerlitz 2005 seeks also to extend the activities connected with the history of the Napoleonic Wars to other localities and thus contribute to the activation of the local tourism and development of relevant business activities. With its location on the axis Austerlitz – Brno – Vienna, the city of Mikulov represents another attractive destination for such events. This gives the beautiful chateau and unique city architecture another great alternative to be offered to the incoming visitor along with the local wine industry attractions.
